Systems In NID

System design is 12 week long course that forces on us to the understand how Systems operate in real world and how wicked problems are given birth

System design is the phase that bridges the gap between problem domain and the existing system in a manageable way. This phase focuses on the solution domain, i.e. “how to implement?”

According to our study , we understand that a system can be anyway approach. It a lattice structure in itself. It takes into account all related variables of the system that needs to be created.Every system has hardware and software. Every system has a brain and the variables that the brain is implied to form a particular function.

Its hard to even understand where to intervene, specially if you are  a designer. As much as creativity is required in systems , so are the right kind of methods to imply it. Our job as a team was to recognize the gaps and try to innovate ways to bridge the gap in a particular system

Our Topic

Our approach

We did our systems revolving around work culture all over the world which included major subtopics like jobs, education and passion. In new times 'gig economy' and drastic technological advancement are defining a new kind of work. What is this work ? What are jobs ? Why do we work ? What is the future of work ? Are we defined by our work , or do we define work ?

Are we working to work ? Or are we simply working to create more work ? Work is burden and boon to many at the same time. So what is that middle ground theory that humans are following ? Are we forced or is it a willing choice ?

We started with simple questions like ' Is it possible to have a career without a dream?' 'Will ambition be the driving force for a job in the future ?' and then we ventured into the who sub system  to validate if jobs are demographic enough. Do jobs need intervention? Should jobs be designed ?

When we started questioning the existence of jobs we quickly shifted to the future of jobs and decided to focus on the future which involved high involvement of technology and gig economy. The technology and necessity of developing new skills according to the fu-futuristic jobs is going to be reason of unemployment in unorganized/organized sector as many jobs are going to go extinct. And many jobs will require updates in skills

Which led us to question our education system better. The kind of education we have , is it adequate to build the foundation skills in a person to its best ? How can we maximize human intelligence output?

Future scenarios | Hypothesis

SCENARIO 1.

A future where the continuous efforts of the government and larger industries has helped focus on the welfare and develope-ment of smaller industries and lower class workers. This results in a slow but steady rise of all sectors and organizations which now have equal opportunities

SCENARIO 2

A future where we see how early adopters move far ahead due to greater accessibility to new technology, where as smaller indus-tries are left behind. Although there is an overall growth there is a much larger divide forming between the different levels.

SCENARIO 3

A future where decision makers and policy creators of our society do not try to create Conducive environments. The lack of adop-tion of new policies will result in a stagnation and lack of progress in all fields. It will also hinder the number of opportunities available.

Areas to intervene

Re skilling for resilience
The demands, needs and skills at work are always changing. With the technological advancements these changes are getting more and more faster. “Upskilling” existing workers  should be an urgent business priority

Social mobility

Because of the inefficiency of our education and Job system, the quality of education is very much depended on the the geographical and economic backgrounds you are born in. The governments, organisations and  individuals should work together towards ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. The hierarchy could be broken down. And social mobility could be highly promoted

Breaking the Corporate Ladder

Technological advances and economic trends mean that work is increasingly virtual, globally dispersed and team-based. As a result, productivity and performance increasingly depend on a workforce that is more diverse than ever before, from gender and generation to culture, background and experience. Companies are drop-ping the ladder structure and adopting lattice structure . How can we bring lattice structure from a company to an individual mindset ?

More Open Education System
Education can become more up to the mark so that it meets the future skill needs according to our framework. There could be more open , creative , cross age discussions in schools that would that focuses on increasing social interaction and collaboration in kids

''In lattice the  ideas, development and recognition flow where they need to, along horizontal, vertical and diagonal paths. The lattice makes possible more collaborative and customized ways to structure work, build careers and foster participation''

Value cards for coworkers

Everyday cards that explains values that help us work together and incorporate these into our lives. Each card represents a value and how the value can be expressed or used as a personal tool to learn that particular value

The value cards could be put up on soft boards or as office decors, could be put up as monthly calendar thing, Could be shown digitally when an individual opens the screens

Empowering curriculum

A concept where children are allowed to select their desired subjects from a given set / or create their own periods. The majority of subjects selected by the class , will be tried to be incooperated within the syllabus , even if it is not evaluated officially. The cards are as a tools for parents and teachers to understand and be exposed to different and new futuristic concepts and subjects.

Each school will be provided with one set of cards from the ministry of education. According to what the students
and the school chooses , textbooks, workbooks and kits will be ordered and provided by the ministry.

HUW ( human update workshops )

The concept is to create platform for organisations/companies or individuals, to help reskill their employees and make them ready for future. With the changing skillsets for future all of us need to update and up-grade ourselves with growing technology.

It aims on building a community of future forward helpers that are ready to acquire and teach new skills that we discussed earlier. These workshops would also pro-mote maker culture and shared economy. As the need for reskilling of employees increases, demand for such a community will rise
